Basic Ideas On Owning Freshwater Aquarium
Owning a freshwater aquarium is the mot liked hobby anywhere in the world. In fact it is the second most popular next to collecting of stamps. You can never explain the different kind of thrill and excitement you feel when you saw fish inside a caged marine setting swimming freely the whole time. In fact anybody can have an aquarium at home or at the office. There are still some who owns more than 2 units of aquarium because they felt the need of putting one. Mini Under water ecosystem
These are the first and the most basic step to undertake in an aquarium set up. First, is you need to prepare the gadgets and the things to buy such as the water tank, filter, heater, a few classifications of fish, aquatic plants and the rest that constitute this mini caged aquatic life. One can't function without the other therefore to start up these things must be complied with first.
Water Chemistry
Consistency of the aquarium's water chemistry is equally important along with the other factors. Always check the ammonia, nitrates and nitrite levels because these substances can greatly affect the fish life expectancy. Water chemistry can change when these substances also changed in its nature and quantity, however they can readily be corrected through filtration methods. The sudden increase or decrease in water chemistry level might put your fish at risk due to some stress. Fish from every variation has also different stress tolerance therefore water chemistry must be at its controlled level all the time.
Maintain Aquarium Set up
Owning an aquarium entails due diligence in keeping it in order all the time. Fish tanks must be properly handled and cleaned or else it will become dirtier over some period of time if not cleaned regularly. For easier cleaning a filter can be utilized to remove dirt residues inside the tank.
Consider also proper regulation of heat inside the aquarium. Actual temperature setting can be simulated by turning on the light during day time and putting it off on night time. The purpose of this is to give an actual feel of what really a natural habitat can be. There are fish that might be at risk because of over lighting therefore proper lighting must be applied all the time to maintain the normal balance within the fresh water aquarium.
Monitor also the acidity of the water inside the aquarium. Ph level testing kits can be readily bought at a local hobby stores and these are more practical ways of detecting how acidic or alkaline water can be. Fish won't survive in an acidic environment neither the plants also so it is a must to check its water ph levels.
Place the aquarium in their appropriate area
For safety purposes an aquarium can't be placed anywhere in the house where busy activities are going on. It must be situated in a place where it can't be reached by small children. Children get easily fascinated by fish that they would tend to touch it or grab it at once. Fish tanks are breakable and brittle so freshwater aquarium is not appropriate in a low area instead it must be displayed in a higher place.
Ideally you can look for an area where there is an adequate supply of water so that you can partially change the water easily. With the use of some pails you won't have difficult time fetching water outside.
Freshwater aquarium should not be facing directly to sunlight because fish won't live longer in a very hot environment. Artificial or natural lighting must be maintained at its tolerable level. Proper passage way is also recommended near your fresh water aquarium so that it can be easily transported or transferred to other location.
