My water salinity doesnt change as it evaporates?

I've had my salt water reef aquarium up and running for about 6 months now and up until recently have been using a hydrometer. And I always added clean water whenever topping off the tank. But now that I've bought a refractometer with ATC, I've just noticed the following. I did a water chance about 4 days ago. I keep a normal specific gravity of 1.024. There is probably about 3/4 to 1 gallon evaporated as of now, and my refractometer still reads 1.024. If I top off with clean water, the salinity will drop. This doesnt make a lot of sense to me. I've checked the entire system for leaks and there are none. I've calibrated the refractometer with pinpoint salinity calibration fluid. Any ideas why my salinity seems uneffected as it evaporates?
I would normally agree but like I said, I just got a brand new refractometer and It's calibrated and works fine. So its not that.

Just to verify, when you used the Pinpoint fluid, did you calibrate the refractometer to 35 ppt (salinity not specific gravity)? I would try calibrating with distilled water too, just to see what result you get. Distilled water should give you a reading of 0. If you can verify your refractometer against one that is already calibrated, I would suggest trying that as well. It's also very important to clean the prism after each use, to avoid inaccurate results.

As I'm sure you already know, when your tank evaporates, the salinity/specific gravity will be raised. Topping off with freshwater will lower the salinity/specific gravity, so it is an unusual problem you are experiencing. If your calibration is correct, and you've verified your results with another calibrated refractometer, it may just be a bad unit.

Which refractometer out of these 2 is better? Please help!

personally... i'd go for number 1... for cost and the brand name.

I've never seen the second one.
