Would it be okay for me to put eucalyptus tree bark into my birds' cage?
I have a aviary that has nine budgies, a cockatiel, and a house finch. My birds chewed up the wooden toys that I bought for them, would it be okay for me to get bark off those smooth eucalyptus trees and just put them in the bird cage so they can chew on it? Should I wash it before giving it to them? How about African Greys, would it hurt him if he ate it? My birds favorite toys are the ones that they can tear up and make a mess with.
Absolutely! Eucalyptus is a great medicinal plant for all parrots, but especially good for budgies. Use any of the plant including nuts flowers, leaves & branches.

I don't wash the any eucalyptus I bring in for my birds but I do wipe these with a hot wet cloth or brush anything off that may be on it, check for wild bird poop & remove the leaf that has that on it & give it a good inspection. Sometimes you can get bugs or bug eggs on the leaves & the last thing you want is something like spitfires on them inside.
Do keep a very close eye on bark if you put it in the oven, it'll ignite very easily.
