What are some good freshwater plants for this aquarium?
I have 4 glolite tetras, 3 neon tetras, 4 pristella tetras, and 3 serpae tetras in a 30 gallon tank. I have one large piece of driftwood in the middle. What would be some good live plants to add. The pH level is 7.5 and there is lighting. The tank stays at about 75 degrees. Also, are there any small shrimp I could add?
What type of lighting do you have? Are you going to inject CO2? Do you have any fertilizers? I need the answers to these questions before I can tell you which live plants you can keep. But with low light, no CO2 and no fertilizers, Java Fern and Anubias would be good start plants.
There are plenty of dwarf shrimp you could add. Amano Shrimp, Red Cherry Shrimp, Tiger Shrimp, Snowball Shrimp, Yellow Shrimp, Blue Pearl Shrimp, the list is endless. Look on the left hand side for a list of shrimp species: http://www.planetinverts.com/
But be careful, because some species can interbreed. Take a look at this chart to see if they're compatible: http://www.planetinverts.com/Shrimp-Chart3.jpg

Discus Fish And Their Care
DISCUS FISH
Discus Fish is a fish with many different looks and shapes. They come in amazing color combinations
Making them one of the most desired fish to have in your fish aquarium . They are beautiful in color
And easy to care for. Discus Fish is fast becoming one of the most popular of fish.
Caring for them properly will result in numerous ohs and ahs from you friends and family.. There is
Nothing like viewing a beautiful healthy Discus Fish. There is a White Diamond that is unbelievably
Beautiful. There are Pandas, Chocolate and Fire Green. They are remarkable and make wonderful
Pets.
Solid Discus fish add a vivid color blast to the Freshwater Aquarium. They carryover from solid red Discus Fish to Solid green Discus Fish with all hues in between. I often listen to... "I have a heavily planted freshwater aquarium & think the solid blues or greens will blend in with the plants." Don't worry, they won't... All of the colors are either extremely metalic or so vivid that they actually pop out on a freshwater planted aquarium background.
A fast tip to acclimating your new discus fish... Six of the keys to getting Discus Fish to acclimate in properly is having adequate cover for them. I prefer driftwood & live plants for all of my fish.
How to get your discus fish in to breeding condition... Live Black worms, mosquito larvae (live), live red worms, live Daphnia & live bloodworms all work magic in getting the discus fish in to breeding condition. Mosquito larva along with daphnia are easy to raise...
In order for Discus Fish to breed, you need the right water temperature... Water temperature is a key component to stimulating discus fish in to breeding. Drop the temperature down from 86 to 82 with a water change of 30-40%... use replacement water that is around 78 to achive this... this helps to simulate a strong rainstorm that would occur in nature where your discus fish live in the wild. You can also lower the pH on this water a few points, say from 6.5 to a 6.2 or so. To learn more about Discus Fish Care
Reverse Osmosis(RO) water filtration in your Discus Fish aquarium will also give you a safe (chlorine free) water with a pH of neutral(7.0) or lower These filtration units will strip over 98% of the contaminants out of your tap water generating ideal discus fish water. The spectra pure units that they sell use a solid block carbon filter that is nice for up to 20,000 gallons, making it six of the best on the market. These units are easy to setup, using a snap conector that will literally hook up in seconds.
Other Types of Discus Fish Foods... Daphnia, needs a bit more work... search on line under raising live Daphnia for all the tricks. The easiest live food to keep is Blackworms. To raise blackworms you basically purchase the amount you need 1/2 or 1 lb portions. Place them in a rubber made container of a 12-16 inch diameter with a 4 inch height with around 2.5 inches of icy (60-75) degree de- chlorinated water. Some people keep them in the fridge, I on the other hand keep them in a icy shaded area outside. The worms will need to be rinsed off every day or so with freshwater. Dicus Fish and their Care
