Looking into getting a ferret, have some questions?

I am looking into getting a ferret. I was planning on getting 2 males from petco, but i have a few questions first. I know they are high maintenance, and not easy to take care of, and need alot of attention. But i have 2 cats, 1 cat is very loveable and loves to be played with, and the other is not social at all, so i want to make sure that ferrets get along with cats. Also, Petco has them for 130$, so that would be 260$ for 2, but then how much should i be looking at to spend besides that for all the needed supplies. and upon buying the ferrets, what else should i expect to be done, vet-wise, and care wise. I also am reluctant to get them because i dont want them pooping all over the house. thanks for all the help in advanced

I used to be a vet tech as well as owning a ferret, so maybe I can help a little. Ferrets are a lot of work and can be quite hyper. They're fun and very smart but beware some of their bad habits. They can pretty much go any where they can get their noses in, under doorways ect. They're great climbers as well. They usually can be taught to use a litter box and come when they're called. I have heard horror stories about people's cats and dogs killing ferrets, so take precaution with your cats. I've also heard stories about ferrets killing cats. I'm not saying this is going to happen to you, but be careful. My ferret simply played with the cats and dogs, so who knows. Petco and Petsmart sell large multilevel ferret cages which are excellent because the ferret has plenty to do and room to move around. In my opinion it's kind of cruel to keep a ferret in a small cage as they love to play and explore. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with your ferret outside of its cage so he has time to explore but watch him like a hawk, so he doesn't chew on cords and get into things you don't want him playing with. You should never leave the ferret out in the house while you're gone. One last thing, they have an odor, but giving a bath about once a week to every two weeks will control this. I would make sure wherever you purchase your ferret or ferrets see if they have already been neutered or spayed, because if not you'll want to find a vet that will do it. The males will spray just like a cat. Enjoy and I hope this helped. UPDATE: after reading what others had to say and without sounding like a know-it-all, or stirring up trouble, after being a vet tech for 15 years and owning a ferret I think I know a little, they DO have an odor, although some people are not as sensitive to the smell as others, I for one can smell it... ferret odor comes from the musk glands in the skin. Don't take my word for it, research it.
