How do I make the water safe in my tropical fish tank? HELP!! - Okay first thing the lady in the store was...?
No help at all she didn't inform me about 'making the water safe' at all. The only thing I got with my tank was a 'sample sachet' of the conditioner with aloe vera. I filled the tank up with water put the sample sachet in - left it overnight & the next day the water was at the right temprature so off I go to buy some fish. Luckily the lady in my local pet shop was a HUGE help to me. She gave me a 30ml bottle of Interpet Tapsafe. Although I'm not sure HOW much to actually use. It says one cap for every 27ltrs. My tank isn't huge at all, a 30ltr half a hexagon shape. So she let me get a few fish just for now - a marble loach & a few neons. When I got home HUGE Problem, my filter which is a Rena Filstar, I had adjusted half way up on the side was blowing a current FAR too strong across the whole tank. One fish died in the first half hour. I have moved it to the surface for now but it is making a spluttering noise every now & again. I have a false rock foam BG so I can't stick it there!!
Your tank will need to cycle and that would have been better done without fish in it. You'll need to do water tests and watch the ammonia levels now so your fish don't get ammonia poisoning. Water conditioner is the least of your problems.
