What's my chicken and hen plant doing?
I call it chicken and hen cuz I think that's what it is. It's a strawberry pot with all differant shapes and sizes of chicken and hen like plants, only now I've got it inside and under the lush green sprouts it's got dead leaves seeming to be coming out of the roots as if the sprouts under them are dying. What do I do?
If it was outside growing, and you have brought it inside, it may be suffering from low light and maybe too much water. This plant is a succulent and requires high light levels. If you brought it inside from outside because of the winter temps, cut way back on the water and let it kinda go into hibernation. It may not look real good again until you are able to put it back outside in full sun. At that time you will just have to clean out all the dead leaves.

Portable Chicken Coops - The Easy Hen House Solution
Raising chickens in your backyard is a really fun and rewarding experience. By having your own chicken coop, you are doing both to you and the chickens you are raising a big a favor. And just think of all the fresh eggs you will be able to enjoy! You'll feel especially good knowing where your breakfast eggs are coming from - your own backyard. Even the chicken manure can be composted and used as high quality fertilizer on your garden vegetables and plants. But before we get started, we will have to think about what kind of hen house you would like to have, a portable chicken coop or a fixed one.
Portable chicken coops are usually smaller in size than their fixed counterparts, but if you do not need a larger number of hens in your backyard you should be fine. Do not cram too many birds into too small of space. Just make sure that each chicken has at least 3-4 ft of space to move around. Otherwise you may endanger your hens' health, and as a result also the egg production. On the other hand, if your coop turns out to be too big, though there isn't really a "too" big, you can always add another hen.
Portable chicken coops have the advantage that they are easy to move around. This makes it comfortable for you to move your chicken tractor to where you can keep an eye on your hens. Watch out for predators in your neighborhood. Your neighbors' cats and dogs may very well be a threat to your chickens. Depending on where you live, there may also be foxes, badgers and other predators that you will have to protect your chickens from. Hence, moving your chicken tractor to an area where you can have an eye on them is a good idea.
But, hens are robust birds and you really won't have to worry about them that much. Just as long as you make the effort to protect them from the more determined animals you will be able to enjoy the eggs and the chickens for years to come. Did I mention chickens make exceptional pets? Well, they do! And they make a wonderful family experience. Raising chickens whether in a portable chicken coop or other type of hen house is a rewarding and unique experience. One that will make a lasting family memory.
