why is my cat losing weight?
my one year old cat is losing weight very fast. two weeks ago he was chubby he had a big double chin and everything and his collar fit on the very last hole but today i was able to pull it off over his head and i can feel and see his hip bones. im very scared and i can't take him to his vet for another week because i don't have the money right now. he's eating fine but he's not drinking and he's become very lazy and sleeps all the time and that's not like him at all. what could be wrong with him and what should i do until next friday when i can take him to his vet? i'm very worried.
im having a similar problem with my kitten. I took him to the vet and he said that the kitten had most likely picked up some sort of bug and was a little sick. A B12 injection, a Vitamin C injection and some fluid injections were all he did (for 105 dollars i might add). I just got home with the kitten a few minutes ago and there doesnt seem to be much change. The vet said he should start eating/feeling better by tonight or tomorrow at the latest so we will see if hes right.
You should go to the vet anyways because there are several things it could be such as an intestinal blockage, feline leukemia, worms. All of those things and probably more can cause weight loss. Work something out in terms of payment but you should definitely go.
