Keet Breeder Cage
Parakeet Nesting on SIX EGGS...Any Advice?
In September of 07 we purchased 2 (one-year-old) Parakeets as a b-day gift for my 13yo daughter (dreams of being a Vet.). TODAY, we are the happy parents of 2 budgie parents and six eggs laid between 7/7-17/08. She (Kiwi) is nesting happily and her mate (Octavious) is helping so much. They seem to be doing fine but my question is......Are we supposed to help in any way? The cage we have is 26x14x22...Will this be sufficient space for the family? We will be seeking advice from the vet at PetSmart where we bought the birds and we are currently researching on the net.... but any advice from experienced keet breeders will be accepted with gratitude. Thank you.
you are doing EVERYTHING right. i think the cage would be OK for the all the keets. i wouldn't interfere unless the parents peck/pluck their feathers or stop feeding them before they are weaned. at the babies But around 2 weeks after the babies started eating soft/seed (and are fully weaned) you should put the babies in different cages from the parents. Plus i think a breeder or a vet will be better to ask rather than someone at pet smart (they don't usually breed them they get the birds FROM breeders)
