What southern Minnesota bird is this?
Hi! In southern Minnesota I was on a walk and a peculiar sound caught my attention. The sound sounded like a toy horn, loud, almost like a blow horn. However, to my suprise, it was a bird flying up in the sky. He was not circling but seemed to be flying from tree to tree In a woodsy area. He was not large either, maybe a little bigger than a robin and was a dark gray or black from what I could see. I have not seen these around the area before.. Does anyone know what it may be?
I don't know if I would describe their call as an "air horn" but Pileated Woodpeckers are quite loud, larger than a robin, predominantly black in color and fly from tree to tree, living in wooded areas. And common in southern Minnesota.

Should i buy a baby or adult bird?
i went to a local bird store to browse because eventually i want a bird. I have just recently lost my conure to my exgirlfriend when we broke up. I want a fairly large bird (at least larger than our peachfaced conure) like a goffin cockatoo, electus, or a severe mccaw.
When i got there they had a 20 year old goffin for only 300 bucks. He had a great home for 16 years, but for the last 4 years was neglected by an elderly lady that smoked and didn't give him toys or anything. He seemed nice and came up to the side of the cage so that i could rub his head.
so my question is do i buy the older bird that is a bit cheaper, but is already developed(personality) or should i just wait, and have them get me a baby so i can raise the bird myself. (i am also scared of when the birds go through the terrible twos)
anyone out there have good luck with buying an older bird and changing them to become more friendly and talkative?
I would say the baby 1 cause then it means you have more time than adult birds
