Leg Bands Gouldian

Bird question.... a little worried.?

I work at PetSmart, and today a lady came in a begged me to take her birds over night. they are Gouldian finch, anyway she said she would pick them up first thing in the morning... well its not that time yet but I'm worried about this situation... I'm worries their A. Stolen B. Sick Or C. she doesn't show up in 3 hours..... I'm stressing out about this. Is there anyway I can track the leg band that one of the two have? would you have done the same thing I did or am I just @#$%ed in the head?
Just adding.... Our store is very stern about pets coming in only our chosen breeders thats it.... If she doesn't come here then I guess I would end up with them for atleast the next 6 months ( by law I think its 6 months or something like that) then I can choose to keep or sell or whatever.
ALSO.... she didn't have a cage just a box and a hamster cage with a perch and one container for food or water... And there was no food.... she did give me a number but it could be fake??

Strange... Finches can be left overnight by themselves as long as they get fresh water and food every day. So, I don't see why she'd need an overnight sitter for them... unless she had to get them out of her home because of carpets being steamed, painting going on, building being fumagated, etc. But people usually plan for these things... not suddenly show up at a pet store begging someone to take their birds.

I know of a case were a woman did the same thing because someone in her home was abusing a bird. She put up with the abuse inflicted upon herself, but tried to save the bird from it. Some people do the wrong thing for the right reason when they're not thinking straight. There are some pretty screwed up situations and some abusive control freaks who stoop to manipulating a spouse by threatening their pets. What might one do if they were in a complete panic because they feared for their pet's life?
I'm not saying that this woman didn't just dump some stolen or sick birds on you... I'd just try not to judge too harshly without knowing.

Did she give you a reason why she need you to look after them?
What area is this Petsmart in?
