What is a good blood sugar level for a Type 2 diabetic?
I was diagnosed a few weeks ago. My fasting blood sugar level was 271 but now I have it down to 197--around there. The lowest it has gotten to with me still feeling good is 135. If it goes to like 87 or even 100 I can barely function. Also what causes my blood sugar to drop rapidly between 4pm and 5pm but not before lunch the same way? Does anyone know?
When I was first diagnosed I was at 250 fasting. My doctor wants me at around 100... never make it. Depends on the doctor, my mom wants hers a little higher. It took awhile to get used to lower levels. My last visit my average was 130 and told to high. As far as crashing around 4-5 have you gotten into a routine of snacks in between meals. It seems that's all i do is eat

Sugar And Diet
Any diet would highlight a balanced approach towards food consumption. By restricting the intake of a particular food and increasing the intake of another, it is possible to accomplish optimum health. One of the main dynamics in dieting is controlling sugar level.
Sugar is an endemic in the recent years. For example, average American consumes 2 to 3 pounds of sugar every week. That is equivalent to over 135 pounds of sugar per person per year. This disturbing number is attributed to the ever popularity of sugar as additive. Sugar is in a whole lot of things, trouncing in various shapes. Sucrose, dextrose, and high fructose corn syrups are featured elements in most processed foods and condiments.
With sugar's far-reaching consequence on insulin levels, the body has no fighting chance against the 'silent injury'. When insulin levels drop; so do the release of growth hormone. These growth hormones lower the immune system that causes the body to be exposed to a multitude of concurrent diseases. Insulin also slows down the body's ability to hold off weight gain and a rise in triglyceride (TG) levels. In simple term, the higher in simple sugars a food is, the more likely it will promote fat storage in the body.
Sugar also competes for control of the cellular growth in the body with Vitamin C. From a structural perspective, Vitamin C and Simple Sugar are quite alike. As sugar levels rise in the body, they contend with one another when they go into cells. If there is a higher concentration of sugar in the bloodstream which let more sugar into thirsty cells, leaving little to no room for Vitamin C, which in turn lower its ability at a cellular level to repel the attacks of pathogens. Lower white blood cell counts equal a suppressed immune system that is not tough enough to care for the body.
