Licker License Dog
Why do laws discriminate against Wolves as pets?
Even the vet won't let me call my dog a wolf because he is prohibited from treating him. This dog is the most affectionate dog I have ever seen. I even asked the vet for a Licker License for him. So why is it they are treated as they are? Mine is an Arctic Wolf and even in the wild researchers aren’t bothered by them, they should at least allow the safer breads.
bdsmslavegirlee, ignorance will never get you a best answer, try answering questions that you are more educated and knowledgeable on the subject.
They are treated as they are because of irresponsible owners. Most people (not saying you!) have no idea of the special needs of these animals. They think they can keep them in an apartment with a postage stamp yard when they need to run miles daily and have huge acreage available. Then they wonder why the dog is mental, tearing everything up, running away and completely unmanageable.
Aggression issues are actually IME near the bottom of the problem list for most of these animals (with the exception of prey aggression which is natural behavior). More common are unmanageability, acute isolation psychosis and destructive behavior- ALL due to owner ignorance.
So many people want one of these animals, so few understand them. I think most of the legislation involved is to protect the animals, not necessarily humans. There are sanctuaries that are CHOCK full of wolves and hybrids, with many more being euthanised- they should never have been bred in the first place. It just isn't fair to allow any Joe Blow to have one, much like a tiger or other exotic. They have special needs and considerations.

Silly question about dog licking habit?
I have a beautiful male black lab that is 2 years old we adopted from the pound. We have had him for over a year now and he licks constantly - but not himself - anyone else! When he comes to you for affection, he will lick whatever he can get into contact with - your face, your hands, your clothes, even the air! He has always been this way and actually has a scar on his tongue that was there before we adopted him where I think another dog must have bit him after having been licked too many times! We jokingly say he has a "licker license" but sometimes it is quite annoying. I know he is trying to show his love for us but how do I get him to stop doing it? I hate scolding him because I don't want him to think he is in trouble. He is pretty timid for a lab and constantly paces like he is nervous, too. What can I do to stop the licking? The only time he is settled is when his "master" (my son) is home, although the licking is constant. HELP!
First it isn't a silly question. It is their way of showing affection and also a form of submission.
You got your furbaby from a pound which is admirable to save a dog ! You have no way of knowing what kind of environment or abuse he received from before you saved his life. So he shows you that he will not be bad ??? and he is submitting .... You are now his 'pack' leader. He doesn't want to experience what he had before & then went to the pound, which may have been very harsh to say the least. This is also why he is pacing. He's nervous or fearful that he may do something that you will respond to in a negative way towards him.
Try being very patient with him and start by distracting him, giving a treat and then work on using a small clicker when you had enough kisses. Click once and say softly but firmly," enough". click and reward when he stops. It may be a long process but as soon as he knows in his heart that you are not going to treat him the way he got treated before and the trust is built between you, he will settle down.
Or I'm afraid he will be like my sister's yellow lab ( also a rescue) a KISSER .... and if one thinks about it it really isn't all that bad compared to other dogs who would demolish your furniture - right ? Good Luck with the kisses
