Lovebird Breeding Black
Calling all Lovebird Experts... How can you tell the difference between a fischer's and a masked?
I recently was given a pair of "blue masked" lovebirds. After researching online, I cannot tell with certainly if this pair is blue masked mutation or a blue fischer's mutation. The blue is a more aqua color (not the cobalt blue) and the mask area is a grey, not black. I thought they might be fallows at first, but no red eyes. Is there a way to tell the difference between them. I am concerned because if they are blue fischer's then they are most likely hybrids (and of course, I would not want to breed them). Thank you so much for your help.
You all are right... a photo of my new birds is needed. My daughter has out camera right now, so later today when she comes home, I will take and upload photos.

By your description,I would say they are Fischers x Masked these were first bred in Britain in the 1930's,but unless you can find out their parontage it is a very hard job to be certain and the only other way is to ,
A. contact the breeder .
B. have a D.N.A.sample by a "Qualified Avian"vet which is a "very expensive"way of finding out.
Sorry I can't help you any further.
Even though I have bred many mutations over the years.
Yeah!Fischers x Masked by the look of your splendid photo.
