i am getting a bird as a new pet?
i am thinking about parrots. Cockatoo or Scarlet Macaws? i like both of them, but i can only get one. any suggestion?
let say somehow i can get both of them, du think they can get along with each other?
DO NOT GET THESE LARGE BIRDS AS YOUR FIRST PET.
So many people get these "cool" birds then abuse them when they start making noise, shredding things, or pooping all over the place --or when the owner gets bored.
These birds are both screamers and (if not treated well) biters with beaks that can take a finger off, and they live for every long time (50 years)
You don't seem like a cocatiel/budgie kind of guy, at least from your picture, so try maybe a Senegal or Caique? they are playful, will hang off your finger, althought they are still harder to take care of correctly than the cocatiel, budgie and lovebird and are thus more likely to end up biting you and being neglected and abused by you.
If you get a large bird as your first bird, despite you best intentions, you will not be able to take care of it properly and it will end up getting messed up -- and in a large bird that specializes in screaming -- that would end up in yet another bird rescue operation.
I had birds all my life and when i got an African Grey which is half the size of those birds i learned really fast i was not up to the task. It began pulling out all it's feathers -- more and more every day -- and i had to give it to my father to take care of (it is doing great now, got all it's feathers back).
Please get a book and read about birds first that will tell you about bird body-language and proper care and bird psychology which is NOT like cat/dog psychology. And then decide between the good starter birds (parakeet, cocatiel, lovebird) that are pretty hard to mess up (for a bird, that is) -- and the Intermediate birds (senegal, caique) which will lie in your hand up-side down and play dead for you -- or play basketball -- IF you treat them right. Whatever bird you get will surprise you, test your pateince (why doesn't it trust me yet? why is it STILL screaming?) and teach you what you need to know about birds before you can get a cocatoo or macaw without creating another feathered monster that no one wants.
