Does anyone know an easy way to trim a pet rabbits nails?
I have two pet rabbits who hate it when I trim their nails, I think they just don't like being confined.
hello. A lot of people do have trouble with this, and it makes sense to err on the side of caution, but it is not so very hard. There is a nail cutting video, however, I did not find it too helpful, but a lot of people swear it helped them. You can find it at this site:

It costs about 20$ I think. (all money goes to rescue rabbits)
I have found the easiest way is to have great lighting...natural, strong sunlight by a window, and a nice sharp cutter (I just get the cat ones from walmart-not the guillitiene type, just the little snipper type) and I rest the bunny flat on his back on a counter or table, and hug to my body, so he cannot wrench his spine. I have a small dish of water, and wet the fur on the paws, so I can get it out of the way. The strong sun helps to see into even a very black toe nail, so you do not get the quick. And most times, you just want to take off a little bit, right to about the foot fur line...Dont go any shorter than the bunny fur on the foot, it will stick out of the fur just a little bit if you got it right.
Hold each toe right by the nail bed...do not let the nails flop around, you need a good steady grip. Just hang onto that nail, and with the dominant hand make a quick snip, and continue on. If you have too much trouble, you can come back and finish another day. Make sure that you give a little treat when you are done, as a reward. If you really have trouble with this, someone else can hold, but that is almost harder, as you are working around their body, too. good luck, I hope this helps.
